Per the Crystal Council’s info, Faden Quartz occurs in a cleavage between two existing rock formations. Initially, this tiny Quartz deposit is a gap-filled vein that has crystals connecting to both metamorphic rocks. Over a long period of time, the 2 rocks will separate. This gives the Quartz an opportunity to continue crystallizing. This slow stretching of the Quartz crystals results in a “string” like effect (that can be seen in high-quality pieces, see white wisps in pic 3). A secondary layer of Quartz then grows on top of this initial “Quartz string” and crystallizes over it.
Each Faden can only be extracted through a hammer and chisel technique, by an experienced miner.
This Faden Quartz has exceptional clarity and beautifully shaped tabular terminations that are especially eye catching. All the tiny crystals on this cluster really add an excellent sparkle overall. Great piece!!
Weighs 99g and measures approx 3.38” across x 1.82” tall.
