1× Burmese KALAGA Tapestry Hand Embroidered Wall Framed 36 x 21.5 total.
A marvelous peice in remarkable shape. A little dust here, a tiny stain there, a missing bead or 2. Only barely noticeable on close inspection. Please see images for full condition. This has aged quite gracefully and is ready to be set for the pleasure of it's owner.
Kalaga is a heavily embroidered tapestry made of silk, flannel, felt, wool and lace against a background made of cotton or velvet indigenous to Burma. In a typical tapestry, padded figures are cut from various types of cloth and sewn onto a background to form an elaborate scene, from Burmese classical plays featuring budda. The figures are sewn using metallic and plain threads and adorned with sequins, beads and glass stone.
