The grip is smooth. It has a moderate matte feel, so it doesn't slip too much and is easy to write with. There are no problems with pressure sensitivity or lag. Highly recommended for those who find the Apple Pencil too thin!
I found the silicone cover for the charging port annoying to remove every time, so I threw it away.
